ATASDA travelling suitcase exhibition

The travelling suitcase exhibition of Marrakech, by ATASDA members, came to our meeting today.  There were two suitcases for the exhibition, we got to see the one called Cara.  The works on display were wonderful.

I had intended going in it but, as is often the case, didn't get around to it.  However, I am feeling inspired to go in the next one.

There were also little kits that were available, to make tiles for a smaller piece if you didn't feel like making a bigger one.

Our Victorian group of ATASDA is still in its formative years and the people who have put so much work into starting it up are standing down - so now it is up to others to see if we have the genuine interest to make it a viable group.  We are going to meet in October and one of our members is going to lead us in making Christmas decorations (inspired by the little booties that Barbara had to show us - you can make them instead of the Christmas decorations if you like). I hope the group is viable but realise that if it is all left to a few participants then it is not a goer.  So we will persevere for the rest of the year and then make some decisions about the new year.

ATASDA meeting, May

I went to the ATASDA meeting on Saturday, we were celebrating finally having a permanent place and a new day (the first Saturday of the month) for our meetings. It is at the Hartwell Church Of Christ Hall
cnr of Milverton & Highfield Rds Hartwell.
Congratulations to the committee members for their hard work in setting up this group.

It sounds like I missed a fun workshop last meeting.  There are pictures of it on the ATASDA blog, here.
There are also plans for some interesting workshops in the coming months.  I'll be keeping an eye out to see what is on.

ATASDA meeting & Dijanne Cevaal

Today I attended the Victoria ATASDA group's (we're not a branch yet) meeting.  The guest speaker was Dijanne Cevaal who was very interesting.  She talked about her recent residency in France and showed us her book about using Lutradur.  Unfortunately it is only in French but she has DVDs available in English on her blog.  As I understand it, they are mostly the pictures and not in the same layout as the book.

Her work was beautiful and inspiring. She is certainly not afraid of strong colours.

She showed us some of her work for her Master's degree exhibition and explained the personal history that inspired it. It used silk that she had dyed, stamped or painted, cut out and then sandwiched between two layers of tulle.  She had also attached some silk to the edges of some.  Absolutely stunning.

So now I might actually get out some of the Lutradur that I have bought in the past and have yet to use.  I have read articles and books about it but haven't quite been able to visualise what to do.  Now I have seen examples that show how wonderful this product can be.  I think I am a person who has to be shown physical examples of things, not just read about them, to be inspired.  That probably explains all the classes I have done in the past.  I love being shown techniques and then thinking about how I could use them.

ATASDA meeting

The inaugural meeting of the Victorian branch of ATASDA was held yesterday.  There were over 40 people present and the mood was very upbeat.  We were told of the usual procedures at meetings in other states and had some demonstrations of various techniques with an embellishing machine.  Some people brought show and tell and described how they had achieved the work they showed.
I hope the group goes ahead and am very grateful to the people who are willing to organise it.   I look forward to interesting workshops and new friendships.
The organisation was explained to us, including the benefits of becoming a member.  These include workshops, online groups, a library and a newsletter.
